The 20-year National Development Plan will require the full cooperation and input of every citizen, Minister of Housing, Land and Infrastructure Development Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed said.
Speaking at a special ceremony held at the Youth Centre, the minister said the plan would be formulated within a year. Therefore, the involvement of all the people will be important to formulate the most effective plan within that period, he said. The minister also said the plan would include important measures for socio-economic development, environmental protection and mitigation of the adverse impacts of global climate change.
"The plan will include ways to bring about development as well as address emerging challenges and issues," he said. The minister said that when a national development plan is drafted, it should be protected by law.
Therefore, an article will be proposed to be added to the Constitution to give the plan legal protection.
“In order to sustain Sri Lanka's development and progress, the plan must be given legal authority to facilitate the achievement of the key policies, objectives, objectives and objectives set out in the plan,” he said.
